Define the Objectives
Defining objectives and ensuring corporate alignment is an area in which many firms find challenges. Alliance Enterprises contracted the development of the Objective Grid that will simplify this significant activity. The Objective Grid ensures that:
- Everyone is working toward the same strategic goal(s)
- Strategic goals are being appropriately supported
- Resources and energy is focused on work that matters
Inspired by Hoshin based strategic planning models, this simple objective alignment tool makes Step 1 in Performance Management very effective.
Define the Job(s)
Defining the job is critical to ensure the appropriate candidate is hire and that the individual will be successful while contributing to the annual objectives. Job definitions can serve as the foundation for annual performance measurement and objective planning when structured appropriately. Alliance Enterprises has developed a Job Requirements Template specifically to complement this step in Performance Management. The Job Requirements Template will provide the guidance to ensure competencies and behavioral expectations are defined along with the primary accountabilities of every position.
Measure Performance
Measuring performance, in order to be effective and meaningful, must be done consistently and in association with the expectations of the job and individual objectives. Measuring performance against annual performance objectives is all too often neglected and poorly executed. It's a primary and fundamental management competency that is too often made to be cumbersome. Adoption of the Performance Scorecard will make this task meaningful while adding clarity and meaning to everyone's work day.

The final step in the Alliance Enterprises Performance Management program is offering training and support in sound hiring techniques. At Alliance Enterprises, we practice Top Grading.
